Love Apple Farm has been a part of the local Columbia County, New York, agricultural scene for more than 40 years. The original owners of Love Apple Farm in Ghent, Chris and Randae Loken, sold their orchard to longtime friend and Art Omi Trustee, Francis Greenburger in 2012. The couple decided to sell the farm to move to California to be closer to their two daughters. Chris Loken is a film writer and Randae, a model and actress.
The Lokens maintained the farm stand for years selling fruit to the community. When the Lokens purchased the land in the 1960s, there wasn’t much at all on the
property and they built the orchard from the ground up. The Lokens were behind the making of their film “Love Orchard” a fictional story which focuses on immigrants in the United States. A short time after the new owners took over, Love Apple Farm had a devastating fire and the entire operation was lost. Thankfully it has a fresh start this year.
Now Love Apple Farm is in a new phase. Lovely apple, peach, plum and cherry trees spread over the rolling hills of the orchard, nestled behind the large newly constructed farm market, bakery and cafe, which is busy with customers during the growing season and during the holidays.
Love Apple Farm, under the new ownership, is operated by supervisor, Keith Bogdanovich, a seasoned operations professional in the food industry and a well- known member of the Columbia County community. Amy Cutaia is the Market Manager and oversees the food service, the local food market, and tours. The new owners plan to carry on the tradition of great service and great local fruits and foods.
The new Love Apple Farm features a farm market with locally grown vegetables, meats, cheeses and poultry, an Authentic Mexican cafe & a bakery with homemade pies and cider doughnuts made on site. And our long tradition of picking tree-ripened fruit lives on. Daily families, travelers, and friends are invited to take a bucket or basket and head up into the vast Love Apple Farm orchard to pick incredible fruit and berries from the trees and bushes. a bucket or basket and head up into the vast Love Apple Farm orchard to pick incredible fruit and berries from the trees and bushes
